Just as with my AU Big Bang fic, I decided to post my SPN Crossover Big Bang fic exclusively to Dreamwidth, so it could be a part of the

three_weeks_for_dw fest.

Title: By Pendragon's Sword the Dark Shall Fall.
Fandom: Supernatural & The Dark is Rising.
Main characters: Sam, Dean, Castiel, Ruby; Will, Bran. No pairing.

Contains: Angst, AU, crossover.
Summary: When Dean sees Bran and Will in a crappy little diner, he has no idea how important they're about to become to his life. And if he had to pick anyone to be extra special, it'd be the arrogant albino asshole, not the mild-mannered Will Stanton. Which shows how much he knows. Will's the Watchman of the Light, and he's not at all pleased with what he's seeing.

Favourite writing tool: more an... environment: a private Google Site shared with my primary collaborator/beta/braintwin for the shared ‘verses we’re writing in the Jericho fandom. It’s not particularly pretty, but it’s really useful and easy to use for uploading and sharing fic drafts, storing reference material (screencaps of key images from the show, transcipts, our painfully constructed timeline) and a place to round up and keep our plotbunnies until we get a chance to write them.

What triggered my horrible addiction to signing up to challenges?

cliche_bingo. I’d signed up for a few challenges before that, mostly in the SGA fandom, but my muse totally glommed onto those cliches! I then got a bit sign-up happy and ended up feeling a bit over-extended. I've been trying recently to pull back and only sign up for things I really, really want to do. But I like challenges because I usually work really well to deadlines and prompts. (I’ve done some self-imposed "daily drabble" challenges in the past.)

Achievement:
I’ve finished my

au_bigbang story and will be posting that next week. \o/

Working on:
I’m currently poking at two Jericho stories in the main shared ‘verse. One is plodding along in a need-to-get-the-plot-out sort of way, before I can go back and fix the characters’ emotional arcs and figure out if I maybe have scenes in the wrong POV. The other I’ve only just started working but it feels like it’s going to be one of those stories where I write lots of disconnected scenes and then figure out how to tie them together.

On the backburner:
I have several part-written stories that I know I’ll get back to and finish some day, but where I mostly need to figure certain things out or write other stories first that will help me figure things out.

To do in the next few months:

ladiesbigbang: I have an outline, but haven’t written anything yet
femgenficathon: I have a lovely quote prompt and a very vague idea about the story I want to write, but I suspect I need to get nearer the deadline for me to get properly focused.
Edit the draft of a 45,000-word Jericho story. This is the longest thing I’ve ever written by quite some distance, and I’m a little flaily about doing that - mostly because of the size of it and being concerned that I can’t keep on top of everything and make sure every part of it ties together as tightly as I’m used to being able to do in shorter pieces. Any tips anyone has on how they approach editing/revising longer pieces would be most welcome!

I'm participating in several Big Bangs this time, and I'm having various problems with my artists. I think this applies both ways, though: author to artist, and artist to author.

-Introduce yourself!

auroraprimavera was my first ever Big Bang artist. The first email she sent me was an introduction, and lo, we got on like a house on fire.
-Respond promptly! Even if it's to say you can't do [x], at least then your partner knows where you stand.
-Keep in touch. If you have a problem, let your partner know, so that if you suddenly disappear offline but you'll be back in time, they don't contact mods going "help! my artist disappeared!". If you don't have a problem, just let 'em know you're still around and doing your bit.
-If someone sends you their latest draft, it's nice to respond and let them know what you think once you've had chance to read it/see it. One of my artists received my draft almost two weeks ago and there's been silence since. Silence feels ominous, to me...
-Work together! Don't spring a massive plot change surprise on your artist two days before the deadline.
-If you promise to do something, deliver. If you promised a rough draft by Tuesday, follow through!
-If in doubt, ask.

What other advice would you have about getting on with your author/artist? My main problem has been total lack of communication.

Writing journal: I don't have one separate from my regular journal, but all my stories are at the AOOO
Main fandoms: Um. Many. Farscape, Supernatural, Stargates, Buffy, Firefly, Star Trek XI, bunch of others. LOTS of crossovers.
Favourite characters/pairings: This changes a lot and depends on what story I'm telling.
Favourite writing tool: Scrivener. And pen, paper and a room with no windows. Totally works.

Most difficult part of writing for me: Finishing when I'm stuck. Once I lose momentum and more than a week goes by, the story ends up languishing and never getting finished. And right now figuring out how to start a story.
Working on: I've got a Star Trek XI story due in a month, and Buffy auction fic many months over due that I'm close to finishing. I have about five other long, non-deadlined stories going on. One I'm actively working on, the other four are the dread stuck ones. And I want to sign up for Star Trek Big Bang. Yeah.
Looking for: Someplace to talk milestones, cheerleading (I'm a good cheerleader too!). Someone to talk me down from being intimidated by how big and out of control a story gets.

Original: I haven't written much beyond a NaNo that will never see the light of day, but I have a notebook on a shelf with scifi type ideas.

Alright I just finished writing a one shot crossover fic. It's femslash if anyone is wondering. The fandoms are the TV shows Criminal Minds (the person the story revolves around is my icon), The Inside, Gossip Girl, the movies Untraceable and Final Destination with some original characters thrown in. Now I need a person or two to beta it.

After that I'll be writing an epic crossover soon where the first story is a crossover of Mean Girls and two Canadian TV series called Higher Ground and Student Bodies.

I completed three Big Bangs in the last month or two, but I still have four left:

hardmode. They're all due at the same time, at the end of August. I also have four essays to write (1,600 words each) and an exam to sit in Anglo-Saxon, and consequently a shitload of translation work to do, not to mention research.

So. A timetable! My essays are due on the 10th and the 17th of May. Two on each date. I don't remember exactly which is which, so I might have to rearrange this...

I have a feeling I'm going to be posting a lot today, but hey, it's all in the name of getting this community off the ground and making people feel comfortable posting. Right?

Anyway, so I have my

spn_j2_bigbang fic to do. The target is 20k words. Technically, I have until the end of April for my rough draft. Practically, because I want to get on with writing other things, and because my exams are coming up, I'm planning to finish it by the time I take my best friend on holiday.

That's the 6th of April. I started work two days ago.

I also have to finish my edits on my

sncross_bigbang fic today, and come up with a title and a summary.

Keep poking me until I say I've done it? (Poking by comments or PMs is fine. If I don't reply, I'm writing, sleeping, eating, or hiding my head in shame...)

I figure I should probably post a to-do list, mostly to focus myself for today's big writing push. Here goes:

scifibigbang - Need to finish plotting it out and begin the solid writing, though I've already done around 1000 words of it.

overlooked - Signed up to write a set based on Rhyme and Sachs in the Lincoln Rhyme Series. I hope to get the first one done today.

yearofhope - Time to start fresh and hope that nothing else happens to completely derail me.

I must also write a eulogy for my maternal grandfather, who died this last week. It needs to get emailed to my mom by tonight.

I'd like to finally finish His Wedding Ring in the Hey Arnold fandom, since it's already plotted out.

Today's plan is to spend 3-4 hours writing, in blocks of roughly 30 minutes each. I want to spend one of those blocks tackling the eulogy (two, if need be), and at least one block on each of the comms listed. It doesn't look like much, but for me, it feels like a lot right now.

Main fandoms: Fringe, with a scattering of Gaiman-verse, Human Target, Criminal Minds, and Top Gear. In the Fringe fandom, I'm pretty enamored with writing AUs, which the show lends itself to so very well.
Favorite characters: The father/son dynamic between Peter and Walter Bishop is one of my favorite things about Fringe, especially because that dynamic is so screwed up. They are two of my favorite characters of all time. I'm also getting to be very fond of Guerrero on Human Target. As far as parings go, I like damn near anything. I like seeing possibilities that people come up with in terms of how and why certain characters would get involved with each other, so I don't really have OTPs. I do strongly appreciate teh hawt that is Peter/Olivia. ^^
Most difficult part of writing for me: Actually, physically writing things down. I tend to think scenes through in my head, get long strings of dialog, but I don't write them down as I go, so I can never really remember the whole thing. I'm trying to break myself of this by always having something to write on at hand.
Looking for: Like-minds and sympathetic ears. :D

Most difficult part of writing for me: Getting started and finishing ON TIME. /o\ Deadlines are something I'm slowly re-training myself about.

Currently my main problem with deadlines and getting things done is the fact that school is eating me and I'm having trouble with deadlines there. I have multiple papers overdue and I need tons of damn help with this because it's scaring me and I can't fail these classes. I also keep getting urges to write fanfic, but I don't know what to do for the most part for inspiration. I have a few ideas for Final Fantasy VII fanfic, but I need to replay the game to check something and my copy is in storage which makes me a sad puppy. And all this school stress and my sleep schedule being off kilter has just made it nigh impossible for me to do almost anything!

I'm signed up to do writing for

parthenon for one of my original worlds and I can't find the energy to write any of the prompts and I'm also involved in

musing_way where I have way too many muses and I get ideas on how to respond to prompts, it's just somewhere the translation is getting lost.

Oh and I signed up for

ff_exchange as well and I have a fic that's long overdue that I promised to someone.

And on top of all of that, I actually have never really had people beta my work because I am chronically shy and afraid of asking for help
